Unlock your creativity and expand your knitting knowledge in this fun class, taught by knitwear designer Vera Marcu.

When: Saturday, 26th of April | 10am ~ 12pm

During this hands-on workshop, we will experiment with two shapes ~ triangular and crescent. We will talk about increases and how their placement influences the construction of these popular shawls styles.
You'll create mini prototypes, gaining an immediate understanding of the process, with time for questions, experiments and insights into how to develop the “recipe” and create your very own unique shawl!

This class is perfect for adventurous beginners along with intermediate and advanced knitters who want to gain a better understanding of shawl construction and shapes, and create your own design!

What's Included:

  • 2 hours of expert tuition by knitwear designer Vera Marcu. Our classes are kept small so you have ample time for questions and hands-on help
  • 2 x 50g balls of soft, natural yarn (choose from our range of 4ply/fingering weight yarns on the day). You will select two colours so that you can incorporate stripes and other colour highlights into your mini shawl sample.
  • Complimentary tea & biscuits (feel free to bring a coffee or your own snack if you prefer!)
  • A fun, encouraging environment to learn and practise this new technique in a group of like-minded knitters!
  • Simply BYO 3.25mm or 3.50mm needles.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Vera Marcu learned knitting as a child and is still fascinated by this mindful and rewarding activity that brings joy to so many people. The first patterns she was exposed to were written in the European style, with minimal instructions and explanations. As she progressed and started to understand how charts presented the knitted fabric, and how certain yarns worked better for certain textures, Vera found herself diverging more and more from patterns, and in the last 20 years, she has mostly knitted her own designs.

During the quiet times of lockdowns, the idea of sharing these patterns with the knitting community became a reality and in 2021 Vera published her first pattern on Ravelry. Since then she has published more than 30 designs, with patterns appearing in knitting magazines and in collaboration with several yarn companies. Vera likes to design things that are fun to knit but also stylish and practical to wear.

Teaching is also close to her heart, as Vera is a violin and viola teacher with many years of experience. These skills help her understand how people learn, how practical knowledge is shared and explained, and what methods work best for each individual.
