Mug cosies are such a practical but pretty way to keep your tea or coffee warm. So many times I have tea while I’m knitting, but I think “I’ll just finish this pattern repeat and then I’ll have another sip…” – before I know it, my tea has gone cold!

Four happy hedgehogs around this mug cosy will bring a smile to your face each time you see them and are a quick and fun intarsia design to work. If you haven’t knitted intarsia before, these are a great start as the pattern is small, and so of course quick! The Hedgehogs are charted in the pattern and knitted with a mixture of Intarsia and stranded colourwork. The green flecks are not on the chart and can be added afterwards using duplicate stitch if desired.

This cosy fits a standard-sized mug.

Technique & Skill Level

This mug cosy is knitted flat. The pattern is a combination of written and charted instructions - tips are included for working from a colourwork chart if you've never done so before.
Stitches used are knit & purl.

Needles

3.75mm pair straight needles

3.75mm pair double-pointed needles, for i-cord

Yarn

You'll need small amounts of DK weight yarn in 3 colours. Wool or Alpaca yarn is best for colourwork as the fibres mesh together, creating a better finish than when knitted in cotton yarns.
